The Simon Fraser Health Region (SFHR) is the new regional authority having responsibility for health services to one of British Columbia�s largest and fastest growing population centres.
The Simon Fraser Health Region was among the first Regional Authorities to be designated by the Ministry of Health. The initial amalgamations included the three acute care hospitals formerly operated as The Fraser-Burrard Hospital Society (Royal Columbian Hospital, Eagle Ridge Hospital and Ridge meadows Hospital) and the extended care hospitals operated by the Pacific Health Care Society (Queens Park and Fellburn). Ridge and Pitt Meadows. The SFHR serves a region of 350,000 hectares and services a population base of 460,000 in 1996 figures. The Region has experienced considerable growth in population as a preferred suburban community located 10-50km from Vancouver Centre.

At the conclusion of this transition period the Simon Fraser Health Region will be responsible for all Ministry of Health grants to all agencies, affiliated facilities and contracted facilities/care suppliers. This broad continuum of services will include direct responsibility for acute care hospitals, extended care facilities, mental health services, alcohol and drug services, continuing care services, home support services and public health services. The initial operating budget of the Simon Fraser Health Region is approximately $450 million dollars. The staff complement of the region approximates 4,400 full time equivalents.
