In many ways, the future can be referred to as a dark abyss of mystery that awaits us at every turn of our lives. Human nature regularly advises us to plan and prepare for the unknown. However, during the last fifty years, humankind has made some seemingly wise presumptions pertaining to the future. Both in movies, literature, and in everyday life, people are making predictions about what is to come. In his novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury makes some prophetic statements about what is to come for humanity. Should we continue to accelerate the technological machine? wife, and her friends. Mrs. Phelps, when asked by Montag how her children are, abruptly answers saying "No one in his right mind, the good lord knows, would have children!" (104) Mrs.Bowles, a mother of two, has an answer for Mrs. Phelps. However, with her response, Bradbury effectively conveys the cold uncompassionate and selfish morals in which Montag's world exists: "I've had two children by Caesarian section. No use going through all that agony for a baby . . . I plunk the children in school nine days out of ten. I put up with them when they come home three days a month . . . You heave them into the 'parlor' and turn the switch. It's like washing clothes: stuff the laundry in and slam the lid" (104-105).
