The question people ask themselves is what they hope to get out of the degree. Some people get their MBAs while they are working and don't intend to switch jobs after they graduate but instead to gain more knowledge and practical experience in their present position. In that case, getting an MBA may not help you increase your salary or even get a promotion. In many cases people get MBAs because they don't know any other way of getting a promotion or raise. The more realistic your expectations are for the degree, the more likely they are to come true. If you are trying to secure a job as a CEO at a large sized company that probably won't happen just because you received an MBA.
MBAs are best for individuals with at least a few years of relevant work experience, so if you have been working in marketing for more than three or four years, you are a good candidate for an MBA.
