39-40 Luke like Mark vv48-49 shows the reaction from the crowd to the blind man's enquiry. They tried to stop him from calling Jesus and yet he cried out even louder. It is interesting at this point of the story that the blind man addressed Jesus as "Son of David", Jesus' reaction came in two parts, first he ordered the man to be brought to him and second he saved him he restored his sight.

This next part of the story vv41-43 Luke version gives us room to anticipate that the crowd must have assisted the blind man to Jesus. Like Mark, the crowd encouraged the blind man to Jesus by saying "take heart he is calling you". Luke omits the throwing off of the cloak but straight moves into Jesus' conversation with the blind man. "What do you want me to do for you?"Luke's version is slightly different from Mark's the blind man addressed Jesus as Lord where in Mark's Jesus is being addressed as Teacher. The disciples and the crowd who have been with Jesus for a period of time failed to know Jesus. The crowd becomes a barrier between Jesus and the blind man. They rebuked him when he called out to Jesus but that did not stop the blind man. He was more determined and called out even louder than the previous attempt. Again in this first part of the story the crowd reactions show the situation of the disciples and those who have followed Jesus.
