A rite of passage is a tradition and honor that has been exercised since the beginning of time amongst all cultures. Usually a ceremony or ritual of sorts takes place, each unique in its own way depending on the culture involved. A rite of passage is the ritual of passage into adulthood a passage into in to a new stage of life. A ceremony is not always involved in a rite of passage but there is always a learning experience or assignment one must complete to accomplish a successful passage. When you are a child and learn to tie your shoe that is considered a rite of passage. When experiencing your first kiss or sexual experience, that is a rite of passage.
