A Strange Place

Arriving at the Majestic Valley Arena in my hometown of Kalispell Montana I felt a dreadful feeling of unease and restlessness. I was dragged along by my girlfriend and her acquaintances to an event that I felt I didn't fit in or belong near. My first thoughts were how these kind of people treated me in high school and how any person of this lifestyle had been nothing but unpleasant and hostile towards me. I was going to a rodeo jam-packed with drunken rednecks, or so I thought.

be much older than seven years old, they were riding sheep that were holding on for dear life and to maybe one day be like their fathers. Just like a bull rider they had an aggravated sheep locked in a pen and once the gate opened the sheep would do anything in its power to have the rider land to the ground with a face full of dirt. I later learned that this was called "Mutton Busting".
The next part of the event was Bronco riding. Men and women got on horses that were dressed in personalized saddles trying to buck them off and whoever showed there power and strength of holding on was rewarded with the bragging rights of the winner. Once the rider fell off the horse there were rodeo clowns dressed in distracting and extravagant colors who would steer the horse from trampling the rider.
