society. Public libraries not only provide access to information but they also remain crucial to providing people with the knowledge necessary to make meaningful use of resources. Although libraries historically have provided a meaningful structure for relating information in ways that facilitate the development of knowledge, they have been all but ignored in the literature about the information society.
An increased emphasis on information literacy and resource-based learning would manifest itself in a variety of ways at both the academic and school levels, depending upon the role and mission of the individual institution and the information environment of its community. Students' would involve not only searching print, electronic, and video data, but also interviewing people inside and outside of school.
