quite nearly mirrored the community present in the audience. But for a few variations, the majority of the audience was white women of middle age. Likewise, it would be safe to assume that in terms of social class the community, and the representative audience, was middle/working class. After the meeting I asked Battye whether the attending audience ever varied much to which she laughed and replied �No.� A small community such as Lebanon�s usually has a large audience like this meeting did as everyone is concerned with the welfare of the education system; still the faces in the crowd seldom changed.
The meeting itself was exactly as Mrs. Battye had said it would be- an extremely formal evaluation of current maintenance issues. At the very start time was offered to the audience to come to the front and discuss or bring up a topic of their concern; though the audience was fairly large no one went to the podium to speak.
