Everyday trash is recycled, but other is just thrown away with out thinking of recycling it. Many times trash that is not recycled and thrown away ends up in the ocean or large entities of water. Thanks to the ocean�s current, much of the trash that goes into the ocean ends up in the Pacific. The great Pacific garbage patch is an area in the ocean where trash keeps accumulating. This garbage patch is situated in an ocean gyre, that according to National Geographic�s article �Great Pacific Garbage Patch�, an ocean gyre is, �an area of the ocean that slowly rotates in an enormous circle�. This circular ocean current is formed thanks to the Earth�s rotation and wind patterns. The center of the gyre is very calm, because of this, debris is drawn in and then it gets accumulated and trapped. This makes it very difficult for it to come out again. According to Jacob, that part of the ocean is also known as an oceanic desert because of its lack of fish and mammals. Due to this, fishermen do not travel though that area and avoid passing through the great patch.
