People who obtain the highest grades are seen as being �intellectually superior.� As a result students are always competing with one another to try and reach that pinnacle of having the highest grade. North America students are basically competing since grade 1. Teachers often hand out stickers or candy to children who answer questions correctly. This means some kids will have more treats than others, leading to envy from the other kids because they want what the other children have.
