The philosophers of the Enlightenment also founded scientific institutes that directly contributed to the research and advancements that took place. The philosophers discussed issues in not just philosophy, but went so far as to write about law and education, and were very forward thinking when they criticized issues with social injustice as well as the general ignorance of the public, asserting that we must be free to think and criticize if we are to be freed from the shackles of a government that thinks for you.
