Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) in the 21st century in the Arab countries. In order to establish a platform for the discussion of this issue, it would be useful to refer to the fads and fashions of methods during the 20th century. Through a brief historical discussion, I would like to argue that the succession of methods was a logical and, probably, reasonable response to the social, academic, cultural, and, sometimes, political changes that took place during that time. Arab countries has gained more space, time, and social status in both educational sector and public life.
