Under the new act, there are still individuals that cannot afford the insurance. Therefore, government subsidies have been made available to make the insurance more affordable for these individuals. As well, the act was made on the principle that by having a greater population pay for variable portions of their insurance, the systematic cost of health care would decrease for the entire population. Republicans have criticized Obamacare as an intrusion into the private lives of individuals, and launched a legal challenge opposing it.
