Keep in mind that the communication process is a two-way street. However, more often than not, it is the listening aspect that is weak for most individuals. Many individuals may hear the message, but if asked to repeat the main theme, cannot restate it. The listener may interrupt the speaker, misinterpret the message, or acquire bias criticism. All these idiosyncrasies prevent a person from truly listening.
Forceful communication requires effective listening skills. Listening objectively is a difficult task, but if a person is able to realize the difference between hearing a message and listening to the speaker, he already possesses positive listening capabilities.
