The Battle Of Bunker Hill

The Battle Of Bunker Hill started during the American Revolution and also during the sedge of boston which was on June 17th, 1775.This took place on the Charlestown Peninsula, Which is on the north side of The Boston Harbour. The two components were The British and The Americans. The generals were Major General Howe (British) against General Artemas Ward and General Israel Putnam (American). This was a very uneven war. The British had 2,400 strong soldiers and The Americans only had 1,500 strong soldiers. The British were a lot cleaner than the Americans. The British wore Red Coats, White Crossbelts, and Shiny Brass Buttons, While on the other side the Americans wore Blue suits and ...

occupied Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill. The colonies built lightly forified lines across the peninsula. When the British were alarmed of there new position the next day they mounted attack. The aim of the Continental Army was to seize the peninsula.
By seizing the peninsula they could set up artillary to bombard Boston. With only about 1,000 feet seperating the peninsula from Boston. It would create a significant strategic advantage to have artillary on it. The British troops had control of Boston and the water around it. They were surrounded though on land by the Continental Army. On the night of June 16th, Colonel William Prescott led about 1,500 soldiers on to the pen- insula. After preparing forts on Bunker Hill, They decided to move to Breed's Hill. They then began building forts there. At 4:00a.m the preps were spotted by a sentry gun on the HMS lively.
