The Future Of Fiber Optics On The Internet - Online Term Paper

The Future Of Fiber Optics On The Internet

Over the Centuries, the science of communication has evolved in such degrees that normal means of communicating are no longer feasible. Communicating has risen in forms of data, video and voice transmission to such speeds that normal coaxial cables could no longer handle the huge amounts of information that were passed through them. Fiber Optics uses light instead of electronic pulses to deliver their information at many times faster speeds than coaxial.
A fiber optic cable is made of several layered components: an inner core, a cladding, and an outer sheath. It is a medium in which communication signals or pulses representing digital information (0's and 1's) are transmitted from one ...

at one time. With the introduction of fiber optics into our daily lives, it will greatly improve the quality and speed of the information we receive.
With the growth of television and telephone traffic, bandwidth has become a large issue that is seemingly solved with the advent of fiber. Fiber Optics has enormous bandwidth and distance coverage as compared to copper wire. Commercial phone systems carry more conversations on fiber optics than copper could on thousand wires. As demand for more bandwidth increases, so does the demand for more fiber optics. As 90% of all long distance is fiber optic, only 50% of local communication, which will definitely change as soon as more fiber optics lines are laid.
Advantages of Fiber Optic systems
Large capacity: 32,000 conversations on two wires. Each wire contains 200 optical fibers which allows for 3,200,000 conversations.
Security: The only practical way to tap into a fiber optic line is to insert a device or to bleed off part of the ...
