My world changed one summer night. I just walked in the door from work when the hear a small faraway voice sobbing in the phone. �My brother is dead- Mike is dead.� My girlfriend Amanda lost her brother to a drunk driving accident. I sat there stunned and confused. It was like everything was moving in slow motion. I had to collect myself and focus on what Amanda was saying. As Amanda sobbed she asked me to come over to be with her. Reality set in. My life would never be the same again. Life seemed precious and not as safe as I thought.

The day of the funeral was a beautiful summer day. The sky was blue with not one cloud visible. It seemed ironic that a day filled with such sorrow had such a gorgeous setting. I remember walking into the funeral home seeing so many faces filled with pain. Amanda was sitting with her family. She turned and cried in my arms. Her Mom gave me a hug. I felt at a loss for words. I had nothing to say. As I sat she promised me she would not cry. I sat there feeling cold and alone. His friends stood up to speak about him, remembering all the good times they would never have share again. It made my heart ache for them. As the viewing ended I had to walk past the casket. I remember looking down at him and once knowing a fun loving, caring young man who Amanda looked up to. Now laid a lifeless cold body. He did not seem real anymore.
