The Plague


Father Paneloux gives two sermons throughout the novel . Throughout the novel many people lose their faith due to their struggles with the terrible plague. Father Paneloux speaks about and why it is happening. Father Paneloux�s faith is tested just like the citizens of Oran throughout the novel.
In Father Paneloux�s first sermon He feels that was sent from God because the people in Oran hadn�t repented for their sins. �Calamity has come on you, my brethren, and, you my brethren, you deserved it� (Camus p.94). He wants the people to still believe in God. Through all that he has been through Paneloux has not lost his faith. �Since it was God�s will, we, too, should will it�(Camus P.225).
