Smoking has grown to be the leading cause of death in the 90's. Over the past decade, smoking has become very popular among young adults. Kids as young as the age of fourteen, have been exposed to cigarettes. The influence of false and misleading advertisement on youngsters is enormous. Tobacco companies target teens and other adolescents, using big fancy ads on the billboards. Most of the ads give the expression that smoking will make you �cool� and/or help you get that gal/guy you have had your eyes on. Study has shown that a single cigarette contributes to the loss of seven minutes of a person�s life. As Lawrence C. An, MD, documents, �Each day nearly 3000 young people begin smoking, one in three of whom may die prematurely.� Doctor An tries to convince people that chronic smokers have a good chance of dying at an early age. One reason for this magnitude of death is lung cancer. Smoking causes severe damage to a person�s lungs. When you inhale cigarette smoke, you are depositing a great amount of tar on your lungs. Over the years, all this tar builds up and makes it harder for you to breathe. Cigarette smoke turns your lung�s color from a nice pink to a nasty black.
