The Tallest Man In The World

Both "The handsomest drowned man in the world" and "Smallest woman in the world" both have characters and setting that are complete opposites of each other. Through the use of setting and characters the authors are able to show in detail the differences in these stories.

The setting of both of these stories are noticeably different. In "The handsomest drowned man in the World" the author illustrates an imagine of a population that is fairly small "the village was made up of only twenty-odd wooden houses"(marquez 231). The characters of each story can be related in some way even though they are complete opposites. The author for "The handsomest drowned man in the World" made the character extremely tall and dead. Everyone accepted him as one of their own and even had a funeral for him, which is extremely strange for the culture since they alway throw the dead off the cliff. As in "Smallest woman in the world" she was very small, alive and got walked on throughout the whole story. She was looked at as a disgusting monster and was talked about as if it were an animal. One thing that was strange was the give name she had, 'little flower' considering she was not represented as a flower at all.
