Machiavelli�s The Prince is a book that gives advice to rulers on how to obtain and maintain the power they acquire. Machiavelli writes on what knowledge and virtues he deems important for princes to have to obtain power. There are three main qualities the Machiavelli says you should acquire deception, military knowledge, and cleverness. Machiavelli states that a prince should only appear to have virtuous qualities. Machiavelli suggests a prince should hide his true personality because it is not beneficial for a prince to rule. The Prince is a grim book that accurately shows human nature and summaries how power is gained in the world.

Machiavelli knows that qualities other than men are needed because �many times the first is not enough� to gain the power you desire. The qualities of the beast that the prince should choose from are the fox and the lion because �the lion does not defend himself from traps, and the fox does not defend himself from the wolves.� The most crucial part for a prince is to know how �to use this faculty and not to use it according to necessity.�

The qualities of compassion, faithful, humane and religious are very useful for princes but only if you know how to use them.
