Theatre Review: Comedy about a Bank Robbery

I went to see "The Comedy about a Bank Robbery", directed by Mark Bell, at The Criterion Theatre on the 19[th] of September 2018. The play, a farce set in 1958 in Minneapolis city bank, was about a heist to steal a diamond by six incompetent crooks. Sam Fogell, playing Sam, greatly contributed to the success of the overall production through his exceptional farcical skills such as excellent comical timing, exaggerated stereotypes and multi-role which made the play incredibly funny. timing was extremely accurate and his stance and voice change truly embodied the stereotypical older man. He says "Get your hands off my daughter" in an authoritative tone towards Mitch, lowering his pitch and decreasing the speed of his speech as well. He jutted out his jaw in a judgmental way and squinted his eyes as a result of furrowing his brows. He effectively over-exaggerated his reaction which is a key element of his excellent farcical acting skills that contributed to the comedy of the scene.

In the next key moment of the scene, Mitch makes the comment of "I thought you you'd be a grey-haired old timer" to Sam. In response, while Sam is turned to Caprice, Fogell begins to display his agility by sprinting to the cabinet and aggressively grabbing the powder sitting on top of it. He then clumsily covers himself in the powder, in order to match the "older" appearance Mitch was expecting. The rapidity of his actions as well as the clumsiness add to the comedy of the scene, ...
