Usage Of Uniforms

The usage of uniforms could make the difference in how today�s children present themselves now, and how they present themselves in the future. Ms. Patricia Wright lives in a neighborhood overflowing with children. She watches them going to and from school. She sees the boys walk pass in baggy clothing with no belts and pants to their knees. She sees the girls walk pass in tight clothing and things that are not appropriate for school children. She is the grandmother, and caretaker of two school children. She is also an avid believer in uniforms, which is why I chose her to conduct my interview.

�Instead of using school as a fashion show, they can come to learn,� she states. Some kids wear different colors to associate themselves with different gangs. She believes that this could all be alleviated by putting them in uniforms. Ms. Wright feels that they can no longer be distracted by what someone is wearing or what someone says about what they are wearing.

Enforcing the rules of wearing uniforms could give more results than giving the children the option to wear them or not. The children may want to express themselves through wearing clothing to show their true personality. This could include inappropriate styles of dress or items of clothing. If we enforce a zero tolerance rule, we can assure that the problems that come along with NOT wearing uniforms will decrease. �We cannot expect the children to just go along with our ideas,� says Wright. She continues, �We must enforce the rules at all costs.�
