Jim Morrison once said, "Whoever controls the media controls the mind." Reading this quote by Morrison really called my attention and made me realize the magnitude of the medias impact on society. Forms of communication a decade ago were not as developed as they are today. When I say communication I am not referring to only speech, but to all means of communication that permit people to exchange a message. We are constantly being bombarded with a great amount of violence and negativity on television, video games, magazines and the news. Violence in the media is an issue that many people overlook and fail to notice the importance of parental guidance.

Researchers have argued that children at a young age are unable to distinguish between fact and fiction, often leading them to confuse reality with fantasy. They also tend to imitate actions they see or hear. Knowing this fact and connecting it back to my own experience makes me believe this issue is greater than what it seems. Watching sex, violence and profanity on T.V has turned into a common activity in American society.

I worry for our generation at times when I see the amount of profanity the media conveys to the public. Over time, children begin to lose their sense of empathizing with people and come to see violence as a solution to their problems.
