Certainly Socrates lives up to his belief that "the unexamined life isn't worth living." He strongly believes, by his accounts in "The Apology", that the most important thing in life is to be a morally good person. By examining life, one can realize that having riches and claiming to be wise are not as important as having a virtuous soul. living. The majority of Athenians saw Socrates' arrogance as nothing more than someone who wanted power over others' moral beliefs. How dare he state that he works at the right hand of the gods? What mortal can make this claim? And, if it were to be true, why would he live such a life of poverty?

Socrates was a firm believer that it is not enough to claim to be wise. He admitted he is wiser than some because, as he stated, "that what I don't know, I don't claim to know." (762) His findings showed that many who are knowledgeable in one area, project the arrogance that they are knowledgeable in all areas. This claim is typically far from the truth.
