What happened in 1947 at Roswell, New Mexico? Some say an extra-
terrestrial space-craft crash landed at a nearby air base. The military,
on the other hand, says that it was only a weather balloon. Weather a
balloon or a spaceship, the Roswell Incident has become a story of epic
proportions.
In the first week of July, 1947, something strange happened in
Roswell, New Mexico. This incident took place at a ranch northwest of the
small desert town, where the wreckage of the supposed �flying-saucer� was
found. This wreckage was first found by a local rancher, Mac Brazel, when
he went out to check on his sheep. He found a considerable amount of

morning of July 8, 1947, Colonel William Blanchard,
Commander of the 509th Bomb Group, issued a press release stating
that the wreckage of a �crashed disk' (UFO) had been recovered"
(Kent Jeffrey, Time For The Truth About Roswell).

This press release made the headlines of over 30 U.S. newspapers in time
for supper. It appeared that Earth was not alone in the universe. A few
hours later, �a second press release was issued from the office of General
Roger Ramey, Commander of the Eighth Air Force at Fort Worth Army Air Field
in Texas, 400 miles from the crash site (Kent Jeffrey, Time For The Truth
About Roswell).� This press release said that the statement given by
Colonel Blanchard was false; that he had mistaken an ordinary weather
balloon for a "flying saucer."
