of people who are involved with groups supporting their own interests. They are using the internal systems to try to have their voice heard-to relative degrees of success. Some stronger groups are the American Association of Retired Persons, National Rifle Association and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Increasingly, such organizations are ironically hooking up with public relations/lobbying firms that support big business. The clean-air legislation is a prime example. When Senate was debating this issue, several senators received strong requests on the question of controlling automobile pollution from such organizations as Big Brothers, Big Sisters and Easter Seal Society.
