Most historians trace the beginning rock back to the year 1950's, when a new type of music was discovered named, Rock n' Roll appeared it transformed musical tastes, at least among young people; it pretty much changed the world. This new music, of course did not come out of anywhere, it was a result from the merging of two musical styles, Rhythm and Blues and Country, as well as a "series of technological developments that created a new market for music." Early Rock n' Roll drew from a variety of sources, to include blues and Jump Blues, Rhythm & Blues, country, gospel, traditional pop, jazz, and folk. Waters, Berry went to Chicago to audition for Leonard Chess [HYPERLINK: http://www.history-of-rock.com/founders.htm] in hopes of landing a recording contract. Berry thought his blues material would be of most interest to Chess, but to his surprise it was the hillbilly "Ida Red" that got Chess' attention. Chess, a great blues label, in recent years had seen its market shrink and was looking to move beyond the rhythm and blues market and Chess thought Berry might be that artist that could do it.
