Introduction: During the time leading up to the General Strike of 1926 industrial unrest was continuously growing. The purpose of these strikes was to to fight for better working conditions and improved wages as previous governments had failed to solve this (The Sankey Commission 1919 failed to implement its recommendations and the Acts that were introduced from the start of the 20[th] century aimed to alleviate these problems but were just used to address them, not solve them. The increasing dissatisfaction of workers, led to the miners (with the sympathetic support of the TUC) protesting throughout the streets. The 9 day Strike was a huge ...

TUC not organised enough (the British Worker was published to late and as a result was only seen by 0.5 million). The strikers were not militant enough, thus they did not appear to be a threat so the government made no effort to stand down.

Paragraph 2: Funding

The government had the advantage as they had more resources than the trade unions. They spent Pound433 million, compared to the TUC that had a limited fund of Pound12.5 million. Which they spent 4 million from. They were hesitant to continue the strike because they would be incapable of supporting any future ones. To make their financial situation worse the Labour Party distanced itself from trade unions therefore they didn't have support in any form, even money from any party.
