In the short story �Hands,� Sherwood Anderson tells a tale of an introvert man struggling with his own thoughts and feelings due to his past life in Pennsylvania. Adolph Myers, best known as Wing Biddlebaum, was a school teacher who has been accused of wrongfully touching his students. The accusation led him to flee to Winesburg, Ohio where he began a new life. Sherwood Anderson uses symbolism and imagery to convey the detailed meaning behind the personality of this torn individual.

Instead, they dreamt of unspeakable things that they think Wing is capable of doing. As a result, the students tell their parents lies about their teacher.
