Female sports have not been around as long as male sports and do not get as much recognition. When thinking in terms of the media, females� sports do not come anywhere close to receiving the same acknowledgments as male sports. Today even, female sports are beginning to show how interesting they can really be, but still do not have equality with that of male athletics.
The inequality in sports between males and females begins to show at a young age. Almost every girl is taught at an early age that anything a boy can do, she can do just as well. Between 1972 and 2008 there has been a major increase in female participation in sports. The increases are estimated at 300,000 female athletes in 1972 to about 3.4 million in 2008. Although numerous women�s magazines have reported that at least one out of every three females are in a sport, this still does not compare to male athletics.
Some would say this is the case, because there are just simply more sports offered to men than there are for women.
Although females were now allowed to participate in sports at a higher level they were still not treated as well as males.
