(1) After winning the extension, NOW organized another ERA march that formulated about 90,000 people in Chicago. Women began fighting for their rights not to symbolize "beauty objects" or "sex objects." (2) In 1968, women protested the Miss America Beauty Pageant because of how it portrayed the women's body and worth. The Miss America protest led to the Trash Can protest where women were throwing garments such as heels, bras, and sexual magazines into a trash can with the intention to set it on fire but did not go through with the plan because it was prohibited. The protests and marches helped with the movement but women were still being denied their basic rights, however, they continued to fight powerfully for equality.
