In the story, “The Yellow Wallpaper” from Charlotte Perkins is a historical context of what the character is going through and suffering. Throughout the story, it shows how the character had a few rights since she was always locked in a room with ugly wallpapers around the room. In addition, it tells a story of what the characters husband John, a physician, that neglects his wives sickens. The story was printed in 1892 when women were still being abused by their husbands then later in 1920 that’s when the Women’s Rights passed, however, women were still being treated the same at home or by their spouse. This explains how men devalued women and didn’t really care about what they thought. They were basically ruled by men even the protagonist tells the reader how her own brother thought the same about women. However, she feels there's “something queer” that her husband diagnosed her with “nervous depression” she feels there’s more to this but doesn’t seem to know what it is.
