Curiosity and the need that many young people feel to test boundaries and limits can also lead to risk-taking behaviours in the form of dangerous driving, experimentation with drugs and alcohol, or involvement in crime.
Many of the factors that place young people at risk and narrow their life choices are societal in nature. High youth unemployment, uncertainty in the Canadian economy, living in poverty, racism, sexism and other forms of bias or prejudice can seriously reduce the number of choices available to a young person.
