American History X

American History X was a movie that taught about racism. The movie had many social issues the characters had to face throughout the film. Right from the beginning to the end of the movie, there were many aspects of racism. The main character Derek Vinyard, played by Edward Norton, is the main character in the movie and is faced with many problems throughout the whole film. This film is probably the best example of racism, which is a huge problem in society. Even though this is only a movie, stuff that went on in this movie actually does exist in real life, and that is scary to think about.

Derek Vinyard, begins to refer to African Americans and other minorities as parasites and problems in the United States. In this same scene he also shows views of white supremacy because he states that minorities come to America only to exploit it as opposed to establishing themselves as "model citizens". As the movie progresses, it is established that Vineyard is part of an actual white supremacist organization known as the D.O.C. One of the main reasons Derek was like this was because his father got shot by a colored individual. The hatred that Derek Felt made him get used by Cameron who is the leader of the D.O.C. Not only did Derek affect himself but he affected his younger brother Danny, and his mother and sister, Davina. Derek being part of this group puts the people close to him at risk.
