The authors of this story, Frank B. Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey, describe the protagonist as a tall man, with a large head, jowls, and a Herbert Hoover collar. So, naturally, he is not small slender type; he passed the two-hundred-pound mark a long ago.
Frank Gilbreth, often referred as dad, always practiced what he preached. Some things he did to keep "progress moving" was that he took home videos (called moving pictures back then) of the children washing dishes. No matter what the situation was, Mr. Gilbreth always pushed to work harder and have the family retaliate with the same amount of effort. Every so many months, he would stop into the children's school and pay a visit to the principal and teachers. He would always ask how his kids were doing in class and he always enforced it upon the teachers if his youngsters could skip a grade or two.
