I will also be examining the monumental Supreme Court decisions of Crandall v. Connecticut, Prigg v. Pennsylvania, and Scott v. Sanford and how they relate to the issues of civil rights and race.

The enactment of the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution can be seen as the most important development of civil rights. The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution outlawed slavery and involuntary servitude. The Amendment reads:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

her student's lives miserable through many forms of harassment and vandalism. The townspeople poisoned the school's only source of drinking water with animal feces. And even went as far as making sure Crandall and her students could not get water from anywhere else. Her and her students were unable to use public transportation and denied access to health care just for being African American students at a facility that was made for them. During my reading of this case, I found a disturbing quote from a Connecticut Politician:

"We are not merely opposed to the establishment of that school in Canterbury; we mean there shall not be such a school set up anywhere in our State. The colored ...
