Dante's Inferno

Dante�s inferno was a poem written by Dante Alighieri in the year 1300. The purpose of this was to show people of this time period the effects of their sinful ways during their life on earth. The moral lesson of the book is to be morally their life on earth in order to end up in heaven instead of in the terrifying place Dante in visions as hell. The consequence of sinning is a punishment, whether it be hell or a punishment in that person�s life. The major themes of this poem were contra passo, repentance, and remaining upon the straight path.

to sin rather than to do the morally upright thing. It also sets the stage for the sins of the rest of mankind. Dante uses contra passo in order to impress on the reader that if, in one�s lifetime, a person commits a sin, that person will be forced to live out that sin in hell in an incredibly wicked and painful way. Dante�s Inferno calls for humans to repent during their life in order to avoid the punishments of hell.
The purpose of the inferno was to show sinful people that they should repent in order to make it to heaven. Although repentance is a courageous and difficult act, Dante believes that this is the only way in which one may avoid torturous hell. Because the God of Christianity is merciful and shows grace towards mankind, repentance allowed sinners to pass the day of judgment and make it into heaven.
