The Relationship Between Basil and Dorian

There are many types of love that exists. Whether it is between lovers, among family or friends, the objective is to protect the person that one cares about at no cost. In the novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, the love between characters can even be considered as obsession. The novel also acknowledged that love could have different levels of admiration depending on the person. Oscar Wilde expressed that meaning of love through the friendship between Basil and Dorian. There is nothing more unique than their unfortunate friendship.

answer, Basil was urged to tell him the story of how he and Dorian met and why Dorian was his new muse. At first, Basil was actually terrified; however, as they got to know more about each other, it was clear to Basil that Dorian was someone special to him. The two got so close to the point that Dorian came over every day to visit Basil. Basil's underlying feeling was that Dorian's unique beauty captured him. It was the beginning of an idolatry that seemed too excessive for two people who only knew each other for two months.
In addition, Basil was optimistic and saw the beauty and good in everyone who he encountered, including Dorian. This explains why Basil changed his mind about Dorian after he felt terrified by looking at him at first. The mere affection that Basil feels due to his optimism towards Dorian can be classified as obsessed but also protective.
