I am writing to you in regards to the Electoral College, and why it is beneficial to abolish it. I do not think that the Electoral College is an effective way to chose the president of the United States, instead I think the election should be decided based on popular vote. The reason I believe this, is because the current system leads there to be very little to almost no campaigning in the smaller states that don't matter as much as the larger states collective voting potential . But then there are larger swing states like Florida, Ohio, and North Carolina which can go either way, and therefore are the states that the presidential candidates spend most of their money in. Then these states continue to receive a vastly disproportionate amount of attention from the presidential candidates and this causes the smaller states to generally be less informed and the residents of that state may not even want to vote in the end. This ends up with a narrower point of view and opinions coming from the people voting for the president, and this could lead to a very one sided president being elected and not accurately addressing the problems of the less populated areas in the country.
The Electoral College also allows for the ridiculous outcome where the winner of the popular vote, does not end up winning the election because the other candidate has more electoral votes. This, needless to say, should never happen under any system. It's not an uncommon ...
