Throughout his childhood Henry Ford liked to tinker with things and find out how and why they worked. Ford went from tinkering with his fathers farm equipment to trying to build a self propelled vehicle. Ford finally accomplished his goal in 1896. ford�s success with the self propelled vehicle led to the start of the Ford Motor Co., which over the years has become one of the most successful car manufacturers.
The Ford family moved to Michigan from England in the 1830s-1840s they later settled around Dearborn Michigan birthplace of Henry Ford. Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863. he was the first of six children, he grew up on the family farm in Dearborn. Ford enjoyed a typical ...

he supported himself by running a sawmill, but Ford was looking for better opportunities, and in 1891 he began work as an engineer in the Edison Illuminating Co., this signified a conscious decision an Ford�s part to dedicate his life to industrial pursuits. his promotion to chief engineer in 1893 gave him enough time and money to devote attention to his own experiments on internal combustion engines.
Henry Ford�s experiments paid off in 1896 with the completion of his first working car. Ford�s first working car ,the quadricycle, could be seen on the streets of Detroit with Ford commanding the steering lever, this was the first of many millions of cars produced by the pioneer. The quadricycle had four wire wheels that looked like heavy bicycle wheels, was steered with a tiller like a boat, was powered by a two cylinder internal combustion engine that made four horse power, and had two forward speeds and no reverse.
