"Frankenstein" written by Mary Shelley is a gothic novel that shares a failed experiment, conducted by Victor Frankenstein, which created a monster. The monster in itself is very unique character, especially because it was created by multiple body parts and electricity. The monster expresses, human - like qualities and emotions, which adds to the dimension of his character. In the beginning of the novel the monster, is an absolutely confused, helpless, and demented creature. In the beginning of the novel Grendel is said to be wandering around in the night with some sort of unresolved anger. Everything he sees seems to have some sort of ignorance, especially with the ram he encounters. Eventually he ventures on to the mead hall where most of the human villagers are, completely unaware of an ambush. The humans believe they are completely smart and know what to do, but fail to realize that Grendel can see in the dark. With this power, he snatches a few dead bodies from the chaotic hall, and retreats to the woods to eat them. It becomes very evident in the next couple chapters that Grendel seems to face some very conflicting emotions, like a human. His theory is that it has something to do with the secret his mother refuses to share with him. Grendel in this novel express very detailed, oppressive and human like behaviors.
