Word choice and diction are key elements in expression of one's emotions and
character. In the short exerpt from Maya Angelou's I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, entitled, "The Aristocrat," the association of language and character is made clear. Language, in terms of both the spoken and written word, has the power to awaken emotions in readers and listeners.
