Microsoft Antitrust Investigation

In May 1998 the U.S. Justice Department and the District of Columbia filed antitrust charges against Microsoft. Microsoft was under contract with the Sherman Antitrust Act. Microsoft had violated Section 2 of the act through a series of unlawful actions designed to maintain its "Windows" monopoly. It also charged that some of that conduct violated Section 1 of the Sherman Act (McConnell , 386). Although it's not illegal to operate as a monopoly, they violated the Sherman Act by using anticompetitive means to maintain its monopoly power.

want to be a monopoly. They want to be able to be the only business that consumers go to for that certain merchandise. A profit is already guaranteed. One of the reasons that being a monopoly is benefital is because it decreases the chances that the company can see a downward demand curve. Because there are no other substitutes, consumers will have no other choice than to go to them for their services.
The business world is all about competition. If an entrepreneur is able to create a product that no one else has, then he has the right to make it an monopoly. Keeping the position will be the hardest. Many will try to create and better the same product. The consumers are who decides whether or not the competitors survive through dollar voting. A monopoly is not always bad. The United States is at a point in which we need to export more. Having companies that are monopolies will make the number of products exported increase and our debt to begin to decrease.
