Nick Carraway is the first character the audience meets in The Great Gatsby. From the first chapter on, Nick makes connections between characters and events that are crucial in helping the story progress. Without Nick being present for so many background events, the reader would not have such a clear and comprehendible reading experience.

his audience about this series of events, Nick does a wonderful job of portraying the emotions and personalities of characters. He allows the reader to sense the shallowness of Tom Buchanan, and the hospitality of Gatsby. Nick does not try to disguise Tom�s abusive actions as normal, nor does he condone them.
