Advanced Practice Nurse

By Definition of the Ohio Nursing Practice Act an "advanced practice nurse" is defined as a certified registered nurse anesthetist, clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse-midwife, or certified nurse practitioner (ORC, Chapter 4723: NURSES, 2014). An advanced practice nurse is a RN that has continued their education beyond the requirements of obtaining their RN license by receiving a Master's Degree to focus on a specific nursing specialty. Advanced practice nurse is an "umbrella term" used to cover all four categories of these specialized nurses. APRN'S must also complete extensive clinical requirements to obtain licensure.
