David Richard Berkowitz, also known as " Son of Sam" or the ". 44 Caliber Killer" is an American serial killer and arsonist who terrorized New York City from July 1976 until his arrest in August 1977. After Berkowitz was arrested, he confessed to killing six people and harming seven throughout eight shootings from 1976 till 1977. His reason for doing so was that he said, " I was commanded to kill by a demon that possessed my neighbor's dog." As they exited their apartment, they noticed a man approach them quickly with a paper sack. Unveiling a handgun, the man fired 3 shots, one hitting Lauria in the chest killing her almost instantly, another hitting Valenti in the thigh, and the third bullet missing both of the women. Then came the Donna DeMasi and Joanne Lomino incident. On the evening of November 26, 1976, these two women were conversing outside the Queens home of Joanne Lomino. Suddenly a man approached.
