Stars

A star is born by mass being squeezed together. N81-located at a distance of around 200,000 light-years in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) - contains some of the youngest massive stars ever seen in the SMC. It shines with a Luminescence equal to 300,000 of our suns. N81 was nicknamed The Blob because no one could get a finely resolved image from earth-based telescopes. These systems were much more common billions of years ago in the early universe, when most star formation took place.

From these locations matter of all types accretes into a large knot of gases, molecules, and other particulates. This process slowly builds its shroud until the internal pressure at the core of the ...

then aids them in the condensation (accretion) of matter from the surrounding space into clumps. This coalescent material eventually reaches sufficient mass to collapse and form stars.

Although the Sun is rather normal from many points of view, it departs in several respects from most stars of similar age and galactic orbit. It is more massive than other stars. It also departs from most stars in being a single star, and it may have an unusual planetary system. There are some tentative indications that its chemical composition departs from those of most solar-type stars of similar age.

Brown dwarfs are sub-stellar objects which are too low in mass to sustain hydrogen-1 fusion reactions in their cores, which is characteristic of stars on the main sequence.

Brown star is different from a main sequence star in that it does not become hot enough to begin fusion, yet it is no longer surrounded by its ...
