Being familiar with the area it was a wise choice to pick this as my project. The Huguenot Fort Memorial is an obelisk marker that represents where an old fort was held by the late Huguenots. The Huguenots were French Protestants most of whom eventually came to follow the teachings of John Calvin, and who, due to religious persecution, were forced to flee France to other countries in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. When glancing the memorial it struck to me that these Huguenots didn't seem to survive for a very long time in their tenure in Oxford (1686-1694), so my question that I went out to seek and research was as follows; Why were the Huguenots forced out of Oxford, by whom, and what was the purpose of this fort?
