The Roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.

Should a man always take the lead role in a relationship? Back in the seventeenth century men held a key role in society and in the homes. Women had to do what they were told and didn�t have very much, if any, power at all. In Macbeth, however, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's relationship were quite opposite. Lady Macbeth is Macbeth's "dearest partner of greatness." (Act I, scene v, line11) and it is obvious that he loves her a lot and would do anything to make her happy. The only problem with this, is that he doesn�t know when to stop and how far he really shouldn�t go.

that he wants to be powerful, and though he doesn�t lack the ambition, he just doesn�t have the courage that he needs (that she has).
Lady Macbeth sees this weakness, and fears that Macbeth is not strong enough, mentally, to kill King Duncan. She asks the spirits to "unsex [her] here,/ And fill [her] from the toe top-full/ Of direst cruelty!" (Act I, scene v). In other words, she wants to become a man. She wants to be strong and evil enough to kill the king herself. When Macbeth returns to his home he sees how serious Lady Macbeth is about committing the murder, and he tells her to stop thinking all of those evil thoughts, yet Lady Macbeth insists on following through with the plan to kill King Duncon. In order to trick Macbeth into doing the deed she calls him out on his pride. She calls him a coward and compares herself to him and tells him that if she promised to kill she would have done it, even if it were her own baby.
